It is a priority of the Shoshone Conservation District (SCD) to improve water quality in the area. Compromised septic systems, if draining into streams and surface waters, may impair those waters for their intended uses.
The SCD offers a program to reimburse homeowners for repairing septic systems that pose a threat to nearby surface waters. Homeowners may be reimbursed for 50% of costs, up to $3,000, for upgraded septic systems. These must be installed under an approved permit from Big Horn County.
